Evangelism
What is evangelism?
The term evangelism has been used and misused so frequently that its true meaning has often been forgotten. Evangelism comes directly from the Greek word, “euangelion.” “Eu” is a prefix which means good. “Angelion” comes from the same root as the Greek word for angel, “angelos,” which means messenger. So “angelion” is a message or news. Thus, “eu-angelion” means simply, “Good News!” The verb, “euangelizo,” or evangelize, means to proclaim the good news.
It is clear from the Greek that evangelism is the sharing of the good news, or gospel, of Jesus Christ. Therefore, to be evangelical simply means to participate in the church’s ministry of sharing through word and deed, the love of God in Jesus Christ.
There are a variety of ways in which we at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church try to share the gospel, and we encourage you to become a part of the many ministries going on here. Some places to get involved include:
• Worship
• Adult Ministry
• Youth Ministry
• Children's Ministry
• Supporting New Members
• Reaching Out
