Communion

For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
1 Corinthians 11:23-26

The Lord’s Supper is the sign and seal of eating and drinking in communion with the crucified and risen Lord. During his earthly ministry, Jesus shared meals with his followers as a sign of community and acceptance and as an occasion for his own ministry.                                                                                                                     (Book of Order W-2.4001)

At the Lord’s Table, the Church is:

  • Renewed and empowered by the memory of Christ’s life, death, resurrection, and promise to return.
  • Sustained by Christ’s pledge of undying love and continuing presence with God’s people.
  • Sealed in God’s covenant of grace through partaking of Christ’s self-offering.                                                                                                                                 (Book of Order W-2.4004)

All who claim Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are welcome to the Lord’s Table. Communion is celebrated at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church on the first Sunday of the month and also at additional special services. The Deacons are available to serve Communion to the homebound members of our congregation. Refer to the Deacons portion of this web site for more information about Communion for those who are homebound.
