Session/Elders
That the leaders took the lead in Israel,
that the people offered themselves willingly, bless the Lord!
Judges 5:2
The Session, or the Board of Elders, is the governing body of Orchard Park Presbyterian Church. It is responsible for setting the mission, providing long-range plans, and running the administration of the church. The Session consists of the senior pastor, the associate pastors, and the elected Elders in active service in the church. Elected by the congregation, all members of the Session are entitled to vote on matters that come before it. Session meets monthly on the third Monday.
In 2001, the Session adopted a unique pillar structure for OPPC that emphasizes five areas of ministry: Worship, Administration, Outreach/Mission, Caring and Discipleship. Jesus Christ is the foundation of the pillar ministry. Each of the ministry pillars lends its own support to the congregation at OPPC and to the greater community.
One Staff member supports each pillar, whose focus is an overall coordination across the pillar ministries, providing long-range planning for each pillar and maintaining day-to-day operations. In addition, three elected Elders are assigned to each pillar, who help to provide coordination and long-range planning for their pillar. Each Elder is an ordained representative to a specific ministry and supports Staff and the Lay Leadership of that particular ministry. They are elected to a three-year term.
