Wisdom from Sacred Steps

This past weekend we hosted a women’s retreat at Orchard Park. We took some time to be in prayer, some time to be with the Word and to rest, create, eat, play and be away from the world, for just a few hours.  Our theme was based around the idea that we are all on a journey and we all carry heavy burdens.  We are all in different places in our faith journey and we all travel together.  As we journey through life, we pick up pieces of wisdom to carry with us and we let go of things that do not serve us.

Wisdom comes from within.  It comes for experience, with age and usually after one has endured a bit of life.  We asked participants to share their wisdom with each other.

Here are the words of wisdom that came from the hearts of our wise participants:

  • Just because you didn’t plan it, doesn’t mean it’s not supposed to happen.

  • Be Still

  • Trust in the Lord

  • God is with you all the way

  • Take a deep breath

  • Trust

  • No matter where you are, or how far you have gone, it’s o.k. to turn around.

  • Have faith and courage

  • Bring your largest, most difficult emotional needs to God alone. Don’t try to get them met by your husband, or your kids, or your parents or friends.

  • Have Faith.  Have Compassion.  Giving willingly in all you do.  Seek God in all things.

  • Persist. Be Strong. Have Faith. Have Hope. Be Thankful.

  • Trust Jesus. Love Others.

  • It’s o.k. to be angry at God!

  • Fear not!  I am with you!

  • God protects.

  • There is a time, purpose, and reason for everything!

  • Trust God. His way is better than anything you could think of to ask for.

  • Find the joy and see the blessings.  Allow others to help. Pray for grace. Take Time.

  • Listen to God. WWJD. Breathe. Rest.

  • It all works out in the in the end.  If it isn’t working out… Well, it’s not the end.

  • “My grace is sufficient and I will be with you.”

  • If you’re on your journey and you in help in finding your way, come join others at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church.  They’ll help you find your way!

  • You are always enough and never too much.

  • God is faithful!

  • Listen and be open.

  • You can always find joy, even in the darkest hour. Joy is not happiness. Joy is knowing that God is with you always.

  • You never walk alone.

  • There is a plan for your life written by God!  It is perfect for you. Have faith.

  • Persevere.

  • Stop Worrying.

  • If God brings you to it, He’ll bring you through it.

What you carry on your faith journey matters. What do you need to let go of and what do you need to take with you?  I invite you take the words of wisdom that came from fellow members of OPPC as you journey, and know that you too are wise and worthy of good rest, good friends, and the Good Word.

For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. (1 Cor. 1:25)
